Ari Melber plays episodes of Peter Navarro giving up privileges

From MSNBC Ari Melber grill former Trump administration trade adviser Peter Navarro Thursday, after the second cited executive privilege as grounds for ignoring the January 6 subpoena.

Committee searching asked Navarro to discuss a plan he had talked about many times. If enacted, it could have stopped certifying the 2020 election results.

The plan is what he and others call “Green Bay Sweep. ”

Former President Donald Trump cited executive privilege regarding the House Select Committee’s investigation into the attack on the Capitol, which Navarro mentioned when speaking to Melber.

He told the host on Rhythm Thursday that he would be happy to talk to the committee, but only if he gets Trump’s clearance first.

Melber says that Navarro is invoking privilege to avoid a conversation he has made public all year:

The subpoena is here, from the house, we’d love to get your official response on that. Given that you told me you had a plan, that you pushed for a delay or deal with the certification, you told me 100 members about it and you said in public that Trump was involved. .

Melber asked Navarro, “If you say all that here, why risk a legal battle or go to jail to refuse to discuss it with the sworn committee? Navarro replied:

Because I have allegiance to the Constitution and loyalty to the president. The President has requested executive privilege in this matter. I have no right to revoke that privilege. I can not. I can not do that. It’s not my prerogative to give up. Let me say it again, Ari. It’s not my prerogative to give up.

Melber surrendered that Navarro’s claim sounded “hypothetically reasonable.”

“You say it’s not your prerogative to give up,” he notes. “Look at some of the news you’ve made on these topics.”

Melber then aired a series of clips of Navarro discussing his plan to discontinue the election’s certification.

In a clip, Navarro tells Steve Bannon “That dog doesn’t bark” in reference to the commission that was pursuing him.

Melber notes:

How do you expect people to take your statement seriously this is a secret and a privilege when you’re out there talking about it, and when you and Bannon say the committee dog won’t bark, they afraid of you and the report? It seems that now, Peter like the dog has barked.

Navarro claimed that just by talking about the “Blue Bay sweep” he did not violate Trump’s claim of executive privilege.

He concluded, “When the president asks for executive privilege, it’s a completely different animal, and as a lawyer, if you can’t see the difference in that, I can’t help you, Ari. .”
