Pokémon Legend: Arceus‘the first post-launch update has arrived online on the Switch, and while it’s tiny, it accomplishes one very important thing: Repair Cherrim.

Here are the full patch notes for 1.0.3:

  • Fixed an issue where, while offline, the screen could freeze after trying to pick up a lost bag by throwing out a ball containing a Pokémon.
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes made it difficult to capture Cherrim.
  • Fixed an issue where a certain event would not occur in a particular Task, preventing the scenario from continuing as intended.
  • Fixed an issue where players could obtain certain Pokémon twice instead of just once as intended, prohibiting players from receiving certain other Pokémon. Related Pokémon will appear for players who are unable to catch certain Pokémon due to this issue.

In keeping with the Nintendo house style, they are extremely vague, but the part about Cherrim is quite clear. Why was Cherrim so hard to catch before and why is it important? Let me tell you a brief story.

Pokémon Legend: Arceus full of side quests, and Pokémon players become as odd finishers as they are (that’s the whole point of the series), it’s such a big pain that some of these side quests based on RNG to complete them. One of the most notorious of these is “To Bloom or Not To Bloom,” which requires the player to max out a Pokédex entry for the grass-type Cherrim.

This might be fine, except Cherrim has been eavesdropped so that even if the player finds a rare Pokémon, it often becomes unsearchable. Like the first time reported by Polygona Japanese support page for Arceus confirmed that whenever Cherrim transforms in battle, which happens randomly and often, Poké Balls will no longer work on it.

Now that little difficulty is finally gone. Rip Cherrim, your days are numbered. Oh, I mean welcome to a sincere and mutually satisfying relationship with your new Pokémon trainer. Arceus’ first patch makes Cherrim catchable
