Apple closes in on Sinking Spring starring Brian Tyree Henry

Apple is preparing to order an eight-part series from Peter Craig, starring Brian Tyree Henry. diversity have learned. Ridley Scott is also executive producing and directing the series, with Craig directing an episode.

The show is titled Sinking Spring and is based on the book Dope Thief by Dennis Tafoya. It follows longtime Philly friends and delinquents who pose as DEA agents to rob an undisclosed country home, only to have their little prank turn into a life-or-death enterprise while unwittingly exposing the biggest hidden narcotics and unravel corridor on the east coast.

In addition to directing, Craig serves as writer and executive producer. Henry will executive produce and star. Scott is producing through Scott Free Productions along with David W. Zucker, Jordan Sheehan and Clayton Krueger. Tafoya will be a consulting producer. Apple Studios will produce. Scott Free is currently under a first-look TV deal with Apple.

Henry is best known for his role in the hit FX series Atlanta, which recently aired in its third season. with the fourth and final season debuting in September. Henry received an Emmy nomination in 2018 for his work on the show. He was nominated for Best Guest Actor in a Drama for the NBC series This Is Us the year before. Henry has recently worked on several high-profile feature films, including Bullet Train opposite Brad Pitt, the Marvel film Eternals and the Monsterverse epic Godzilla vs. Kong. He will also star in the upcoming Apple feature Causeway.

Sinking Spring will be Craig’s first time writing for television. He previously wrote or co-wrote hit films such as Top Gun: Maverick, The Batman, The Town, Bad Boys for Life, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 & 2.
