Antonio Banderas wants Tom Holland to lead the ‘Zorro’ reboot

Antonio Banderas has expressed interest in returning for another Zorro movie. Speaking to, the actor shared that he would be willing to help another hero take the mantle.

“Yes I would, I would consider that possibility, why not?” Banderas said when asked if he could return for a possible follow-up. “If they called me ‘Zorro,’ I would do what Anthony Hopkins did for me, which is pass the torch.”

Who did Banderas want the torch to go to? He voiced Tom Holland, with whom he recently starred in Sony’s Uncharted, based on the popular Playstation video game series.

“I did ‘Uncharted’ with him and he’s so energetic and funny,” Banderas said of Holland’s acting style. “He has that spark too. Why not?”

Banderas first portrayed the masked vigilante in 1998’s The Mask of Zorro, which starred Hopkins as Don Diego de la Vega, the original Zorro, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The feature follows Banderas’ character as he takes the mantle, tutored by Hopkins’ mentor. The success of the first film led to a sequel, 2005’s The Legend of Zorro, which did not fare as well both critically and commercially.

Next up, Banderas can be heard – but not seen – in the upcoming DreamWorks sequel, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, voicing the eponymous Zoro-like hero who originated in the Shrek films from DreamWorks.

Barring possible Zorro reboots, Holland is currently starring in the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room, and is also set to play actor-dancer Fred Astaire in an upcoming Sony biopic. Antonio Banderas wants Tom Holland to lead the ‘Zorro’ reboot
