Antioch Shelter-in-Place has been raised; Man Found Dead Possibly Killed by Improvised Explosive Device – CBS San Francisco

(CBS SF) – Police in Antioch have lifted a shelter-in-place order for a stretch of F Street, including an area with three schools, as police investigate a possible self-inflicted and self-inflicted death by an improvised explosive device.

The area mentioned in this order is along F Street between West 11th Street and West 17th Street, according to a warning posted on the Antioch Police Department Facebook page.

Many schools including Fremont Elementary School, Antioch Middle School, and Live Oak High School are located in that part of Antioch.

An update provided by police initially confirmed that authorities were investigating a murder.

Antioch police dispatch received a call at around 7:40 a.m. requesting a welfare check for an individual seen in the West 17 and F Street area, where Live Oak High School is located.

Upon arrival, police found a white man in his 50s with severe injuries and unresponsiveness. The victims died at the scene.

Police said the identity of the victim remained unknown as of Monday morning. Officers also noticed electrical wiring in the area where the body was found and the Walnut Creek Police bomb squad was called to assist in the investigation.

Police have issued a shelter-in-place order as the investigation continues. Parents have been informed that classes have been canceled at Live Oak High School.

On Monday afternoon, police revealed the man’s injuries appeared to be self-inflicted and possibly caused by an improvised explosive device.

As a precaution, bomb squad units conducted a search of the schools and surrounding residential areas, but found nothing.

“There is no indication of any other explosive devices in the school or surrounding areas, but we just want to be sure,” said Darryl Saffold, Director of Strategic Communications for the Antioch Police Department. .

Saffold initially confirmed that the incident was the fourth homicide investigated by the department so far this year.

On Saturday, a suspect was arrested in connection with a double murder after his teenage son and girlfriend were found dead at their apartment. Police say there are currently no murders involved.

The shelter-in-place order was lifted by the Antioch police at 2:43 pm
