The Detroit Tigers pitching team just can’t stay healthy at the moment with young right-hander Tarik Skubal going down last.
Skubal was hit in the leg during a comeback and was taken out of the game as a precaution. It is not yet known how long he will be out.
An already briefly recovered bullpen was forced to get up quickly, with Skubal knocked out in the middle of an inning. The line drive that hit Skubal was clocked at 100.4 mph on the first go. That has to sting.
Detroit’s rotation is short from the start Eduardo Rodriguez, Casey Mize, Spencer Turnbull, Michael Pineda and Matt Manning are all out through injury. Adding Skubal to that list would be devastating for a team that already dealt a heavy hand early in the season.
Heck, even Miggy tries to recruit help on this young campaign.
Tarik Skubal injured: The Tigers can’t take a break
Bad luck with injuries is normal in baseball – most teams experience it at some point during the year. But getting to the same position so quickly is unusual for Detroit.
Although the Tigers have had a surprisingly reliable bullpen so far this year, they will find it difficult to sustain the extra innings they have to take on due to shorter starts and shallower depth.
Hopefully Skubal doesn’t miss a significant time. We’ll have more on his injury as it becomes available.
