Animal Crossing’s biggest PC rival has grown

In the past year, an idyllic life simulation with anthropomorphic animals has quietly picked up speed. No, it’s not new animal crossing. It’s called an under-the-radar game Hokko lifeand it’s coming to consoles next month.
At first glance, Hokko life undeniably bears a strong resemblance to animal crossing, Nintendo’s Juggernaut series of life simulation games. Both games are set in an idyllic small town populated by animals that walk and talk and live cute approximations of human life. Both have an emphasis on farming and decoration. Like the villager player character animal crossing, you have a small axe. The obvious similarities you’ll notice in the video above don’t end there.
but animal crossing was previously only playable on Nintendo machines. There is a vacuum for this particular style of play in the PC and mainline console ecosystems that Hokko life supposedly has to fill. Last year, just after it became available in Early Access on Steam, Kotaku Australia written down that it didn’t feel meaty enough to warrant public availability.
That was then. That is now. In Early Access, Studio, all year long Wonderscope Games– the nickname for game developers Robert Tatellwho does Hokko life solo – rolled out a number of updates, to the point where Hokko life is more or less a complete game. One added a lot of new elements. Another added a perk system similar to this that is present in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. but Hokko life is not an exact one-to-one re-mapping of the game that defined the early events of the pandemic. adjustment on Hokko life is much more robust.
Hokko life is currently playable in Early Access on Steam, where it has a “overwhelmingly positive” rating based on approximately 1,000 reviews. It will be released in full on September 27th on PC, but also on Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
