Angels make the clearest decision for the Opening Day known to man

The Los Angels used Friday to make one of the clearer calls a club can make.

Like most clubs, the Los Angeles Angels are getting ready for Opening Day. The Angels are full of talents from pitching to hitting. They have options.

Director Joe Maddon even surprised some by bringing in Justin Upton to his first facility this spring.

However, some options, such as who starts School Day, are a bit more obvious.

Yes, Shohei Ohtani will be the one to start the Angel’s Day. Of course!

Shohei Ohtani will be the starter of Angels Day in defense of MVP

Ohtani has had a great 2021 season. Either way, he’s an AL MVP. As a pitcher, he won 9-2 in 23 games and 130.1 plays for the Angels. He had 156 hits. The two-way star also played pretty great, blowing up 46 hosts. He hit .257 / .372 / .592 with +152 wRC. He had 26 doubles, 8 triples, 100 RBIs, 26 stolen bases and 96 walks.

Under one of the new rules agreed in the new CBA reached by the MLB and MLBPA, a pitcher, such as Shohei Ohtani, can remain on the roster as the designated hitter if he I’m out of the game as the pitcher. This new rule is aptly named the Shohei Ohtani Rule.

With the designated hit rule now common throughout baseball, it will be interesting to see how teams will use this rule or whether teams will use it. There are some strong pitchers in the National League who could also benefit from this rule, such as Madison Bumgarner and Adam Wainwright.

After a stunning 2021 season, Ohtani won the great honor of kicking off the season on Opening Day. The 2022 season is sure to be an interesting one for the 27-year-old left-hander and right-handed pitcher.

The Opening Day of Major League Baseball was very special. However, baseball fans around the world will be enjoying quite a bit on April 7 when Ohtani takes over as the island mound for the Angels.
