Angelina Joile and fans celebrate daughter Zahara en route to Spelman College

Angelina Jolies daughter Zahara Jolie Pitt goes to college!

The “Malificent” actress shared on Instagram that her daughter will be attending Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia this fall. The smiling teenager was photographed with other incoming freshmen and women who proudly represented the college by wearing blue Spelman shirts.

“Zahara with her Spelman sisters! Congratulations to all the new students starting this year. A very special place and honor to have a family member as the new Spelman girl,” Jolie wrote. Before reading the books and making more new friends, Zahara and Jolie attended a special farewell.

Over the weekend of July 30th, alumni from Spelman College and Morehouse College held an event in Los Angeles to celebrate the freshmen from both colleges. On Morehouse’s official Instagram page, a video showed the celebration group dancing to Cameo’s “Candy.” Jolie even made an effort to mimic the electric slide’s dance moves before laughing as she made her way off the dance floor and into her smiling daughter’s arms. Both Jolie’s photo and Morehouse’s video were deluged with messages of congratulations for Jolie-Pitt.

“Spelman will blow your mind, little sister! Soak it all up!” wrote one person. Another commented: “Your little baby is in college? This is not possible!! Congratulations!!!!” Other comments praised the “Eternals” actress for welcoming her daughter’s decision to attend a historically black college.

“I love how Angelina makes sure her daughter is connected to her blackness,” one comment read.

“I’m so happy for her! After growing up as a black girl in an all white world, she gets her black experience! You go Zahara!!! Spelmann College! Let’s go, little sister! Next is the pledging!” wrote another person.

“Love it. 🖤 I respect that she really takes the time to make sure her kids experience parts of her heritage that she knows she can’t teach them,” a third person commented.

Jolie adopted her daughter from Ethiopia in 2005 as a baby. In the past, Jolie has spoken out about how important it is for her daughter to stay connected to her legacy. “My daughter is from Ethiopia, one of my children … and I’ve learned so much from her,” she told TIME in 2020. “She’s my family, but she’s an extraordinary African woman and her connection to her country, her continent, is her own and it’s something I step back from with awe,” she added.
