last april, Angela Simons honored her late ex-fiancé and father of her son, Sutton Tennyson, after it was announced that Michael Williams had been sentenced to life in prison for Tennyson’s murder in 2018. During a recent appearance on the show Tamron Hall, the mother and entrepreneur opened up about the tragedy and the tearful wish her 5-year-old son Sutton Joseph has for her to one day get married.
Simmons shared that her son kept asking about his father after his shooting. As previously reported, Tennyson was shot dead outside his Atlanta home on November 3, 2018 after an argument with Williams.
The ‘Growing Up Hip Hop’ star said: “There’s this constant conversation that I have to deal with. … No one has a child with someone and thinks I’m going to do it alone voluntarily. You want to raise a child together.”
Since Tennyson’s death, Simmons has been linked to other romantic partners, none of which lasted.
She continued, “He says ‘Mom,’ you know … He says ‘Are we ever going to get married? For example, will anyone marry us?’ You know, he’ll ask stuff like that. He’s like ‘mama’. … And that was a touching conversation because he said to me, ‘I know my Father is in heaven. And I will always have two fathers because I know my father will be my father. But mommy, when can we have someone, you know? When will someone be there for us?’”
The reality star revealed: “It was a conversation he had with me this year. And I just said, ‘Gosh, he’s only five, and that’s how his brain processes it.'” Simmons told Hall of how she answers his questions: “You know, I tell him, ‘When it’s time, when God will there the person we are here, we are ready.’ But you know, I’m just saying, ‘We’re just going to pray, and we understand each other now.’ And I tell him, ‘We’ve got this, you know?’”
She continued, “Because he’s going to say, ‘Well, how come my dad isn’t here to help me or bring me things?’ I say, ‘We’re fine.’ I tell him we’re a team. And he understands it and he processes it, but he asks.”
Support from online fans came almost immediately. Many encouraged the start to keep going and that one day the right partner would show up, including one Instagram user who wrote: “I almost cried you can hear her pain in her voice! There is someone out there for everyone.”
Another person added: “She was trying so hard to hold back the tears. Stay strong sis, you are doing great.”
Simmons spoke about hearing the news for the first time, revealing that she “couldn’t really accept it or understand it, and all of a sudden I was deaf,” Simmons said when she first learned of her ex-fiancé’s death . “I’ve never understood what it means to be physically numb, but that day I was like, ‘I literally don’t feel my body, and the first thing I think is, ‘Now what?'”
