An Australian family’s desperate pleas as a newborn fights for his life in hospital in Bali

A Melbourne mother is asking for help to save her newborn baby who is seriously ill in Bali, where the family is stuck and cannot afford the $90,000 to get them to Australia.
Honey Ahimsa was at her home in Bali with her partner Pan, their son and newborn baby Lucky on Monday when she noticed the seven-week-old baby was having trouble breathing.

“I thought I could help her just sleep and give her my milk,” Ahimsa told 7NEWS.
“I tried to help her, it’s normal when babies get sick, they just need sleep… but then she stopped drinking my milk.
“She got very tired and then I looked at her stomach and you could see her lungs (pulsing).
“So we rushed her to the hospital and … she got cold and lost her color.”
Doctors at Siloam Hospital in Denpasar determined that Lucky was suffering from a severe bacterial infection and needed a ventilator to breathe.
Without special equipment, doctors could not diagnose the exact infection.
Little Lucky has since been transferred to the hospital’s intensive care unit and remains in critical condition.
Doctors have told the Melbourne-raised mum the hospital is unable to save her life, meaning they will have to foot the bill to get Lucky elsewhere.
“We’re talking to the ambulance so we can fly her to Australia,” she said. “We don’t want to lose her.”
But the family cannot afford it. An Australia-based medical flight operator told 7NEWS he wanted to help the family, but it would cost up to $90,000.
The family were also offered $90,000 to fly Lucky to Singapore on a rescue plane.
Ahimsa says Lucky’s condition is getting worse every day as hospital bills continue to rise.
“Every day is very expensive … like a day costs 8,000 Australian dollars,” she said.
“She is only seven weeks old and beautiful. She is such a sweet little girl. She’s very gentle and we really just want her to live a long life.”
A fundraiser set up by a family friend said a doctor told the family on Wednesday Lucky “may not get through this”.
“Not sure if antibiotics will work or not as she is in such an unstable critical condition,” organizer Natalie Saper wrote, adding that Lucky will need to be hospitalized for at least two weeks.
The State Department told 7NEWS that it is investigating the situation.
