Among Us, Goose Goose Duck is gaining popularity thanks to K-pop group BTS

It’s barely January and we’re already writing a completely weird headline, so let’s try to put what’s happening here into context. This is a story about Goose goose ducka multiplayer Deceive-Em-Up from Ontario-based Gaggle Studios that shares many bones with the hugely popular game Between us (which was itself the video game breakthrough in a very, very long line of social deduction games). The game pits four players who are geese who have roles and objectives against two hidden mallards out to sabotage them, and also features additional selectable sub-roles and additional modes such as Draft, Trick or Treat, Dine & Dash and goose hunt
While most would probably pass GGD A mere copycat, it has seen a significant surge in popularity, rising to become the third most watched game on Steam and seeing such a huge influx of players that servers died earlier in the week. And the developers probably have K-pop giants BTS to thank.
Last November, one of the BTS cast members began streaming the game to fans, which in turn led to a surge in the number of concurrent players from 6,000 in mid-November to almost 130,000 in December. At the time of writing, the title is at a new all-time concurrency of nearly 600,000.
Although much of the game’s popularity appears to be centered in Korea based on the game’s peak times, the game has received its fair share of positive Steam user reviews on our side of the world, earning an overall score of “very positive”. One review even went so far as to say it’s better than Between us.
