meeting is reporting that Amazon is currently in talks to shoot the PlayStation series God of War into a TV series.

While neither Sony nor Amazon could/would confirm the news outside of an official announcement, Deadline’s report states that the show is being produced by “The Expanse creators/executive producers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time, executive producer /Showrunner Rafe, Judkins is being overseen,” while there are also contributions from “Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions, who are collaborating on all PlayStation game-based TV series.”

While there was a lot God of War Games released in the last 17 years, I would assume that any TV series based on the 2022 games will take most of their creative cues – at least in terms of presentation and tone – from the 2018 game and its upcoming sequel would take over.

The deal, if it actually makes it into production, would be the latest entry into what’s turning into a video game-to-TV adaptation gold rush that’s similarly seen other PlayStation series The last of us (HBO) and Bent metal (also Amazon) picked up, the former is well underway now having been filming since 2021.

Then there’s Mass Effect (Amazon too), Resident Evil (Netflix) and Fallout (Amazon again), not to mention Paramount’s big Halo series debuting later this month. And that’s just the TV shows! We have the Unexplored movie last month, and Netflix is hoping to make one BioShock Movie sometime in the future too.

It’s not hard to see why production companies and film/television studios are rushing to video games right now. As books and, more recently, comics have shown, adaptations can save real money by appealing to a die-hard fan base, and many of these video games either have large fan bases or have developed their own unique, compelling stories perfect for the small screen. The success of The Witcher on Netflix, from which, let’s face it, a lore gets more juice The witcher 3 than the book series, probably helped too. Amazon wants to make a God of War TV series
