TAMPA – Amanda Serrano couldn’t better summarize the aftermath of her most recent win.
Serrano told BoxingScene.com and other reporters as she took to the stage after her post-match press conference to discuss her 10-round virtual death with Miriam Gutierrez.
The seven divisions’ spotlight list reached a point in the week where any conversation regarding Ireland’s Taylor (20-0, 6KOs) would be stopped immediately. Serrano doesn’t want to give Madrid’s Gutierrez (14-2, 5KO) anything but her undivided attention ahead of their lightweight fight last Saturday like Showtime Pay’s co-feature- Per-View from AMALIE Arena in Tampa.
Naturally, there were members of the media eager to discuss the potential superfight that lay ahead with Taylor, who a week earlier had successfully defended his fifth undisputed lightweight championship and 12th time defending at least one lightweight title. While the Irish superstar is now free to talk about her final fight, Serrano (42-1-1, 30KOs) still has work to do in a second consecutive co-feature spot with the creator content creator Jake Paul (5-0, 4KO), whose Most Valuable Promotion is currently guiding her career.
However, the selection of Gutierrez was by design as the 38-year-old Spaniard only lost to Taylor before Saturday night. With that fight, the focus was on completing the fight that has been hailed as the biggest fight in women’s boxing history.
“We are both top three in the pound. Some people have me at two or three,” said Serrano, who has won 28 games in a row since 2012. “It doesn’t matter how you look at it. Two girls balance it. You have an undisputed champion and a seven-tournament world champion following each other.
“It is a great battle that will blow the roof off. We’re looking at Madison Square Garden, the main (room). It will be a great night. “
