Amanda Quinonez accused of sexual relationship with college student

A teacher and water polo coach in Southern California was arrested earlier this week for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Amanda Quinonez30, is charged with a felony of indecent behavior involving a child, a felony of distributing harmful material to a minor and a misdemeanor of molesting a child.

Quinonez works at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Eastvale, California. While located in a different county, the school is located just outside of Los Angeles. She has since been placed on administrative leave.

“This news is discouraging and worrying for all of us,” the Corona-Norco Unified School District said in a statement obtained from the local Riverside County newspaper The press company. “Corona-Norco Unified School District and Eleanor Roosevelt High School do not tolerate behavior that endangers our students.”

The school made crisis advisors available for staff and students on Wednesday, the outlet reported.

According to a press release from the RCSDthe teacher “committed indecent acts with a male student and distributed harmful material to that student that contained explicit photographs of a sexual nature.”

The alleged victim’s name and age will not be released.

The high school’s parents also received a letter this week from principal Dr. Gregory Anderson that the authorities were notified as soon as the administration learned of an alleged “improper relationship”, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Those allegations led to the involvement of law enforcement and a subsequent investigation that allegedly uncovered the evidence used to arrest her while she was on school grounds, authorities said.

That Times noted that Quinonez was arrested on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 and released from custody the next day after posting $50,000 bail. During her brief stint in prison, she was held at the Robert Presley Detention Center. However, while the charges were being brought by the police, prosecutors were reportedly unsure whether to press the charges.

The paper reports:

The Riverside County Attorney’s Office has not yet decided whether to press charges in the case. Sheriff’s Sgt. Edward Soto said the investigation is ongoing.

Regardless of the prosecutor’s decision, Quinonez is scheduled to face the allegations before a judge. She is currently scheduled to appear in court at the Riverside Hall of Justice on June 14, 2022.

The defendant began teaching language arts at the school in 2016. She later taught boys and girls water polo and swimming. But this year, according to the school, she only taught girls water polo.

Earlier this month, another teacher in California was arrested for allegedly molesting seven students by engaging in “numerous” sexual activities with them, inappropriately touching them and sharing graphic photos of the students online.

The defendant in this case Anessa Paige Gower, 35, previously worked at the Making Waves Academy in Richmond, California, a charter school. She was arrested by police and sheriff’s deputies after returning from a vacation in Hawaii, the Contra Costa County Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
