Altice USA hires Dennis Mathew as CEO, Dexter Goei appointed executive chairman

Altice USA is changing at the top: The cable network operator announced that it had hired Comcast veteran Dennis Mathew as CEO.

Matthew is taking over the CEO role from Dexter Goei, who has been appointed Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective October 3. All of Goei’s direct reports will report to Mathew. Altice USA founder and current Chairman Patrick Drahi remains a member of the Board of Directors.

The US No. 4 cable operator said it made the move to hire a new CEO “given Mr. Goei’s intention to return to Europe with his family.” Goei has worked for French company Altice since 2009 and led the telco’s entry into the US market through the acquisitions of Cablevision Systems and Suddenlink Communications, now comprising Altice USA.

Mathew joins Altice USA from Comcast, where he spent the last 17 years in senior corporate and operational positions, leading the company’s largest regions – Freedom (Southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Northern Delaware) and Western New England ( Connecticut, Vermont, western Massachusetts, and New York and New Hampshire areas) – with a focus on all aspects of residential and commercial business. At Altice USA, Mathew will be based at the company’s headquarters in Long Island City, NY

“I am pleased to welcome someone of Dennis’ caliber and mindset to Altice USA,” Drahi said in a statement. “He has an impressive track record at Comcast, driving transformation and success in highly competitive markets, and redefining the role of telecommunications services for customers through a superior service experience, all of which will serve us well.”

Before joining Comcast, Dennis held technology risk assessment positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Andersen/Protiviti.
