The Elder Scrolls Online introduced companions, NPCs who travel the land, adventuring with players and fighting alongside them in battle. The more time players spend with a companion and the more they fight together, the greater their companion’s abilities become.
After some time, companions trust players enough to share their personal quest with them, which is the only way in the game to get these quests. Here’s what you need to know about companions in The Elder Scrolls Online.

There are several companions that you can find in The Elder Scrolls Online. The first two were introduced in the Blackwood expansion, while the next two companions were introduced in the High Isle chapter. Players need access to Blackwood to unlock Bastian and Mirri, or High Isle to unlock Isobel and Ember.
- Bastian Hallix is located south of Deepscorn Hollow on the southwest coast of Blackwood.
- Mirri Elendis is north of Doomvault Vulpinaz in north Blackwood.
- Isobel is west of Gonfalon Bay near the Castle Navire Tournament Grounds on High Isle.
- Ember can be found south of Tor Draioch northeast of Gonfalon Bay on High Isle.
Where can companions be summoned in Elder Scrolls Online?
Players can summon their companions almost anywhere in Tamriel, but there are a few notable exceptions. In population-limited instances such as dungeons, group arenas, and trials, each companion present counts towards the population cap as if they were a player. Players always have priority in these areas, and your companions will be automatically sacked as needed as other players sneak in.
Companions cannot be summoned in PvP areas, solo arenas, or in residential instances. If a player’s relationship with a companion deteriorates badly enough, the companion may also discharge itself and refuse to respond to summons.
