Developer Behavior Interactive is constantly monitoring the meta in Dead by Daylight. With each mid-chapter update, the current metadata, the most used perks in the game, are overhauled and rebalanced to shake up the way people play the game. This guide details all of the perks that are changing in the mid-chapter update for Roots of Dread.

All survivor perks will be reworked in the middle of the chapter update

This list shows every Survivor perk that will be changed in any way as part of the Dead by Daylight mid-chapter update for Roots of Dread.

dead hard

Makes a Survivor immune to damage or Dash for a short time. It has been changed to instead provide the stamina effect for 1 second, giving survivors a speed boost when dodging a killer attack instead of being a sprint button that you can spam.

Decisive blow

Once unhooked, picking it up again can trigger a special skill check for Survivors, instantly freeing them from a Killer. The perk now deactivates once the gates are unlocked and the stun duration has been reduced to 3 seconds.

borrowed time

Gives the stamina effect to survivors who you hold out for a short time. Stamina request time is increased to 6/8/10 seconds and movement bonus speed granted is increased to 10 seconds. The effects are canceled when the survivor performs a conspicuous action.

iron will

This perk makes the grunt of pain quieter. Noise reduction is reduced to 25/50/75% and the perk does not activate when a survivor is exhausted, making them less reliable.

Allows Survivors to heal themselves at 50% speed without a Med Kit and increases Med Kit usage. It no longer increases med kit speed and its overall speed is reduced to 25/30/35%.

Spine Chill

Increases action speed and skill checks when the killer is nearby and looking your way. Adjusting this to only activate when the Killer has a clear line of sight to a Survivor, but the perk will remain active for an additional 0.5 seconds to prevent it from flickering and for a small overall boost. Finally, the perk’s speed boost is completely removed.

calm mind

The perk now allows you to open chests and purge totems silently, although the speed for these actions is reduced by 40/35/30%.

Allows Survivors to identify Scourge Hooks. Their auras turn yellow when worn so Survivor can avoid them at all costs.

know botany

The healing speed of this perk is increased to 30/40/50%.

Off the Record

Gain the stamina effect for 60/70/80 seconds after being unhooked, although this effect is lost if you perform a conspicuous action.

Stroke of luck

You can now recharge this perk by healing other survivors. Each Survivor you heal increases the Perk’s charge by 1 second.

This perk used to guarantee a med kit when searching a chest for the first time. It now only activates when you’re injured, guaranteeing a med kit from a chest every time you need it.

sole survivor

The perk not only hides your aura, but now also increases generator repair speed by 75% and gate/hatch opening speed by 50%. This only happens if you are the last survivor in the trial.

You can now regain distortion counters by spending time in the Killer’s Terror radius. You get 1 token for every 30 seconds you spend in Terror Radius.

This perk is being upgraded so that it also makes claw marks, the red lines that killers use to hunt down survivors, more sporadic. Overall, you become harder to track, helped by your claw marks fading 5/4/3 seconds earlier than everyone else’s.

Grants a bonus 5% repair speed to the three generators revealed by this perk.

Nobody is left behind

The mid-chapter update increases the movement speed of all survivors you unhook by 7%. The perk will now also activate once the gates are powered up instead of opening.

dark sense

The perk now activates when a generator is powered. The next time the killer is within 24 meters of you, their aura will be visible for 5/7/10 seconds, then the perk will be disabled.

The perk now also reduces dying grunts of pain by 75%, making you harder to hear and allowing you to crawl away from the killer faster.

There is now no time limit on this perk, meaning late-game saves are back on the table.

Purifying a hex totem doubles the repair speed bonus this perk grants.

We will live forever

The Bloodpoint bonus is being removed from this perk so points don’t dictate loadouts. Instead of gaining a token for certain actions, you now grant the stamina effect to survivors who heal you while the perk is active.

All killer perks will be reworked in the mid-chapter update

This list contains all of the killer perks reworked for Roots of Dread in the Dead by Daylight mid-chapter update.

Barbecue and chili

Currently, this perk allows killers to see the auras of distant survivors for a short time after capturing one of them. Each Hooked Survivor provides a small stackable Bloodpoint bonus. Aura Reveal will remain the same after the mid-chapter update, but the Bloodpoint bonus will be removed.

Hex: ruin

This perk will automatically reset Generators when not being processed by Survivors, provided the Hex Totem is standing. The regression the perk provides is halved from 100/150/200% to 50/27/100% to bring it in line with other hex perks.

Pop goes to the weasel

After hooking a survivor, this perk causes your next kick to instantly remove 25% progress from a generator. The perk is now being redesigned so the kick removes 20% of the last progress on the generator, not the overall progress, slowing down the killer’s regressive power.

Corrupt Intervention

Blocks the three most distant generators at the beginning of the game for a short time. This perk will be changed to unlock the Generators after a Survivor enters the Dying state, meaning a Killer has claimed their first victim. This should make the matches more balanced for most, but not all, killers. The plague will certainly not be affected.

Makes the Killer untraceable for a short time and provides an audible generator indicator when it is 70% repaired. The perk now only activates once per generator, making it a little less useful overall, but still very powerful.

Hex: Nobody escapes death

While the Hex Totem is standing, all survivors will be revealed once the gates are opened. The strength of this hex does not change, but survivors can now see the totem within four yards. That range increases to 24 yards in 30 seconds, meaning it’s slightly less effective as a killer comeback tool.

Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance

After you hook a survivor to the Scourge’s hook, the generator with the most advancement will explode. This notifies the killer and causes the generator to lose a large amount of progress. The progression removal remains, but the explosion and sound notification of the generator or screaming survivor is removed, giving killers far less information.

This perk is upgraded to increase a generator’s regression rate from 100% to 400% over 30 seconds.

The generator regression penalty this perk applies is increased to 10% and the duration of the incapacitated effect is now 15/20/25 seconds.

Causes Survivors to crawl 50% slower and reduce their recovery speed by 25% for 15 seconds while in the dying state.

A buff is applied so that this bonus increases the speed of skill checks by 50% for those survivors who heal in the killer’s presence.

Dark Devotion

This perk now activates whenever the possession survivor loses a health condition.

There will be no cooldown on this perk after the mid-chapter update, so survivors should beware.

Deadly pursuer

A buff is applied so this perk extends the effect of all aura gauges by 2 seconds.

Scourge Hook: Gift of Pain

The action speed penalty for this perk is increased to 10/13/16%.

The action speed of this perk increases to 4/4.5/5.5% per survivor for a total of 18/20/22% maximum.

Scourge Hook: Monstrous Shrine

This now converts all Basement Hooks into Scourge Hooks, and these Scourge Hooks grant Hooked Survivors an additional 10/15/20% progression of the entity while a Killer is within 24 yards.
