All Covenants & Rewards –

For players unaware of Dark Souls 3 Covenants, they are nine in total and you can join any one of them at your ease. Furthermore, it is believed that players can join more than one Covenant while preventing some of them from being locked permanently.

Other than that, players confused by the name “Covenant” shouldn’t worry because, in simpler terms, these Covenants can be understood as a “Faction”, “Group, “Clan”, or a band that provides rewards, support, and missions.

I hope some of you have understood the basic terminology. We shall now go into further depth about each of the nine Covenants in Dark Souls 3 and how you can join them!

Key Takeaways

  • You can join any of the nine Covenants in Dark Souls 3.
  • Each Covenant will provide a unique reward and/or benefit to its member.
  • Some Covenants only provide support whereas, Covenants such as Warrior of Sunlight provide cooperative play. Members/players from different worlds can unite together to complete dangerous tasks and defeat bosses.
  • The rewards obtained from completing tasks are compliment-worthy, meaning that they are not all useless. Some benefits of a Covenant can be limited to protection, such as the Way of Blue.
  • Some Covenants are simple to join, while others can take a few steps. My guide will give away details to join a Faction/Covenant.

Dark Souls 3 Covenants

As we have discussed before, there are nine Covenants to choose from, and once you join a certain Covenant, you will be given protection from other members or phantoms that invade your world or provide cooperative play among other players.

From Greatshields to Swords and from Lightning Spears to Darkmoon Rings/Blades; The rewards and benefits of joining these factions are limitless!

We’ve only touched on the minor details of these Covenants, now we’ll talk about each of the nine Covenants and how you can join them. Before we start, there is a need to convey a strong message to my fellow Dark Souls fans.

Considering the number of Covenants and rewards one can get from joining them, I’ll also be mentioning some of the worthy Covenants players can join. These will prove beneficial to the player’s input in the game and their overall time! Without delaying any further, we shall start with our first Covenant!

Way of Blue

Way of Blue
Talk to Emma, the High Priestess!

Joining this Covenant, players will be given support against invaders and phantoms that are hostile toward them. The only benefit of “Way of The Blue” is limited to friendly support, where if a player is surrounded/ or his world is invaded by other players, a member from the Blue Sentinels or Blades of Darkmoon will come to his aid.

However, if the invading players are from a Covenant; Aldrich Faithful, or Watchdogs of Farron, there will be no support for the player whatsoever. So, you’ll need to be careful of the players that invade you!

Other than that, getting an extra pair of hands to defend yourself from harm is a good way to start your day in Dark Souls! You can join the Covenant by procuring the item “Way of Blue” and equipping it

You can take the item by talking to Emma, the High Priestess, or just incapacitate her with your sword and loot it from her corpse! (I’m joking, guys! Stay away from innocent violence)

Additionally, you cannot expect anything other than friendly support as there are no rewards or ranking systems in this Covenant.

Watchdogs of Farron

Watchdogs of Farron
Talk to the Dying Wolf!

If you’re a member of this Covenant, you will always be summoned whenever the Crucifixion Woods is invaded by other players.

Your job is to protect the swamp from any unwanted guests until they retreat or are dead! The rewards are somewhat exciting and you can get a handful of experience for yourself if you want to rank faster in Dark Souls 3.

Moreover, there are a few occasions when players act like jerks and gang up on invaders. The moment can be quite embarrassing and even low for players that have a high soul level. However, the fun in that is exquisite! (You will always be summoned to the place of ‘invasion‘ by any other player)

To join the Watchdogs of Farron, players need to be at the swamp near Farron’s Keep. Once there, they will need to defeat Rotten SLugs that guard the ladder. After that, use the ladder to climb down, and talk to the wolf near the fireplace. The conversation will prompt players to join the Covenant in Dark Souls 3.

Rewards For Joining Watchdogs of Farron

After defeating/killing the host of the world, you will receive the following rewards;

  • Wolf’s Blood Swordgrass – Kill the Host to receive Swordgrass.
  • Old Wolf Curved Sword – Give 10 Swordgrass to the Wolf.
  • Wolf Ring – Give 30 Swordgrass.
  • Wolf Knight’s Greatshield – Offer 30 Swordgrass to receive the reward.

Aldrich Faithful

Aldrich Faithful
You will need to talk to the corpse of Archdeacon McDonnel!

Players may be aware of Aldrich’s Territory, if not, then here’s what they need to know about. The Aldrich’s Territory is just past the courtyard outside of Pontiff Sylvahn’s area. You need to stay clear of this path unless you’re a member of Aldrich Faithful!

Furthermore, there is a simple explanation of the wonders of this Covenant, and here’s all you need to know about them. Considering you’re a member, you’ll be transported to the location of any trespasser that enters Aldrich’s Territory.

Your task will be to defend the area and kill the trespasser if necessary! So, if anyone tries to get past Aldrich’s Territory, they’ll have to be prepared for what’s coming! YOU, my friend!

Being a member of the Aldrich Faithful, you’ll have to defend the territory with all your might! To add more spice to that, the area is a hot place for PvP action. This means you can get as much experience as possible from those activities. Not only that, players that are focused more on Faith builds can get the highest benefit possible!

Rewards For Joining Aldrich Faithful

  • Human Dregs – You can obtain these by defeating the trespassers!
  • Great Deep Soul – Turn in 10 Human Dregs to receive the reward. (Rank 1)
  • Archdeacon’s Great Staff – Turn in 30 Human Dregs to the dead priest! (Rank 2)

To join the Aldrich Faithful, players have to defeat two of Sulyvahn’s Beasts. But first, they need to travel toward Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. From there, they will have to engage in a deadly fight with these beasts and defeat them, afterward, the northwest room will be your go-to destination.

Opening the door will put you face-to-face with Archdeacon McDonnel’s corpse. You’ll need to pray to them and obtain proof of the Covenant.

Warriors of Sunlight

Warriors of Sunlight
You will have to find the emblem of the Warrior of Sunlight to join the Covenant!

As the name suggests, the Covenant has been a favorite since the Soul Series’ first launch. Remember how we were talking about a few benefits of joining Covenants, and I mentioned cooperative play?

Warriors of Sunlight offers the player cooperative play, which means they can match up with other players from different worlds and support each other in various missions such as defeating tough bosses, guarding places, and supporting against invasions!

How does the Covenant work? After joining Warriors of Sunlight, players will be given a summoning sign which can be used to alert you when other players need your help. You can activate these signs by placing them on the ground and waiting for other players to interact with the signs.

Moreover, the fun of playing alongside other players is significant. You can help each other to clear arenas, and defeat tough opponents/bosses to receive rewards such as a Sunlight Medal. The medal is used to reach a higher rank!

Rewards For Joining Warriors of Sunlight

  • Sunlight Medal – You will receive a Sunlight Medal after you help the Host to defeat an invader/boss.
  • Ember – An Ember will be offered to you as a reward for helping the Host defeat a boss.
  • Sacred Oath – For turning in 10 Sunlight Medals, you will receive the Sacred Oath.
  • Great Lightning Spear – You will need to offer 30 Sunlight Medals to receive the Lightning Spear.

To join Warriors of the Sunlight Covenant, you’ll need to pass a burning tree near the Undead Settlement. After that, you’ll notice an abandoned house not too far from an archway that leads right toward it. You must enter the house/building and find a hole in the floor near Cage Spiders and a few boxes.

As soon as you locate the hole, you need to jump through it and find the emblem. It will be near the pot of Estus Soup on the table.

Blue Sentinels

Blue Sentinels
You will need to find Horace the Hushed!

The members of this faction synergize perfectly with the members of Way of Blue. You might wonder about the connection between these two Covenants. To make things easier for you, Blue Sentinels are somewhat similar to the Warriors of Sunlight in a way that members can be called in for help and vice versa.

However, Blue Sentinels will protect the members of Way of Blue Faction while they are on their way to defeat a boss or engaged with invaders. For instance, you are on your last health bar fighting invaders and suddenly, members of the Blue Sentinels come to your rescue and kill the invader for you, OR they will escort you out of harm’s way!

In the game’s definition: “A member of the Way of Blue if invaded by a Host of another world while en route to a boss, will be protected by the members of the Blue Sentinels!”

You don’t have to worry about activating anything, the summoning will occur automatically once it discovers a threat ONLY if the item is equipped.

Rewards For Joining Blue Sentinels

(P.S all of the mentioned rewards for nine Covenants are AFTER joining them and clearing their objectives)

The rewards you’ll get for defeating or escorting the Host of another world to the area boss are as follows;

  • Proof of a Concord Kept – Escort the Host or help him defeat an invader, and you will receive this reward!
  • Darkmoon Ring – Offer 10 Proof of a Concord Kept to receive the Ring!
  • Darkmoon Blade – Turn in 30 Proof of a Concord Kept to receive the Blade!

To join the Blue Sentinels, players will have to travel to the Halfway Fortress bonfire before defeating the Deacons of the Deep. After reaching the place, you can either kill or speak to Horace the Hushed and he will give you the Covenant Emblem to join the Blue Factions!

If you cannot find Horace the Hushed at the Halfway Fortress bonfire, it means you have already defeated the Deacons of the Deep. Therefore, you will need to travel toward the Firelink Shrine to find Horace!

Blades of The Darkmoon

Blades of Darkmoon
Company Captain Yorshka will give you the emblem to join Blades of The Darkmoon Covenant!

Three other Covenants almost work the same way in Dark Souls 3; Warrior of Sunlight, Way of Blue, and Blue Sentinels including Blades of the Darkmoon. The effects of this Covenant are somewhat similar to the Blue Sentinels in a way that you’ll be summoned to a member of the Way of Blue who has been invaded by a phantom or another player en route to the boss.

Once you have been called to their aid, your goal will be to fight the invaders and help them defeat the boss after you successfully escort them. Similarly, you will be given a Proof of a Concord kept, which you can use to reach a higher rank/level.

Rewards For Joining the Blades of The Darkmoon

  • Proof of a Concord Kept – After defending the Host of Way of Blue members and/or defeating invaders, you will receive the Concord.
  • Darkmoon Ring – After obtaining 10 Concords and turning them in, you will receive the Ring.
  • Darkmoon Blade – Offering 30 Concords, you may receive the Darkmoon Blade.

To join the Blades of The Darkmoon, you will need access to the Darkmoon Loyalty gesture. You can obtain it from Sirris of the Sunless Realms. Similar to Horace the Hushed, you can find Sirris at the Firelink Shrine. Travel to the Shrine and obtain the item before she is killed, otherwise, the Covenant will be permanently locked!

Furthermore, upon receiving the item from Sirris you will have to travel toward the Prison Tower in Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. After that, you will find Company Captain Yorshka whom you’ll receive the emblem to join the Dark Souls 3 Covenant!

Spears of The Church

How awesome is it to play as a boss in Dark Souls 3, much less any other game?! The benefits of joining the Spears of The Church will allow you to act as a boss for the Host of another World.

Moreover, you can acquire all the powerful perks of a boss such as having their Stamina, Health, and Damage to Resistance increased significantly. You can fight other players by acting as a boss with all the fun elements! However, it is the sole responsibility of every member of this Covenant to act as a boss for other Hosts during the Halflight, Spear of the Church fight.

Other than that, you must have heard of the legendary ritual Spear Fragment and Divine Spear Fragment. To your delight, you have full authority to wield these items!

Dark Souls has added a fun element to the game, which is none other than acting as a boss during any fight!

Rewards for Joining The Spears of the Church

Act as another Host’s boss – you can also use the fundamental items such as the Divine Spear Fragment and the Ritual Spear Fragment during the fight.

  • Filianore’s Spear Ornament – You will receive this reward after defeating the Host of another world while acting as the boss! Furthermore, receive enormous buffs to your Health, Stamina, and Resistance to Damage!
  • Young Grass Dew – Offer or provide 10 Spear Ornaments to receive this reward!
  • Divine Spear Fragment – You can collect and offer 30 Spear Ornaments to permanently unlock the Spear Fragment!

You will have to defeat the Darkeater Midir to join the Spears of The Church. You can locate him after leaving the Shared Grave Bonfire and reaching the bridge that connects to the Church of Filianore.

Midir will be waiting for you on the bridge to await his death! Other than that, there is another step players need to keep in mind to find him and that is to use a secret path at the Ringed Inner Wall.

After you defeat Darkeater Midir, you will receive an emblem similar to the other Covenants, which will provoke you to join the Spears of The Church! Enjoy availing the full benefits of being a boss and fighting other Hosts!

Rosaria’s Fingers

Rosaria's Fingers
You will need to talk to Rosaria at the Cathedral of the Deep to join Rosaria’s Fingers Covenant!

One of the amazing benefits of this Covenant allows the players to change/tweak their attributes and customize their characters up to five times during their time in the game!

It is a unique feature added to Dark Souls 3 like none before. It can be extremely helpful when a player has difficulty with his current attributes and the physical appearance of his character. Worry no more! As you can tweak these changes as per your needs!

In Addition to that, players can also unlock Ringfinger Leonhard’s quests to attain more rewards and benefits. However, the only downside to joining Rosaria’s Fingers is you’ll have no access to Sirris’s quests which will cut off any useful items players can get from completing the quests.

To assure maximum usage, players can complete all of Sirris’s quests before joining this Covenant!

By joining Rosaria’s Fingers, players can also rank up fast. To do that, all you need to do is defeat other invaders in the presence of Blue Spirits to receive rewards. The rewards will only be produced after each Blue Spirit is killed.

Rewards For Joining Rosaria’s Fingers

  • Change the Physical Appearance and Attributes of your character five times in a playthrough – Players will need to pay one Pale Tongue for every change they make to their appearance and attributes!
  • Players can summon Yellowfinger Heysel at Keep Ruins Bonfire – You will have to defeat Yellowfinger and pay with a price of one Pale Tongue for this to work!
  • Bow Gesture – Furthermore, you can avail this reward by performing the above method, which is to defeat Yellowfinger and pay one Pale Tongue!
  • Pale Tongue – You must wonder what this is, right? You can get these items by defeating/killing the Host of Embers!
  • Forked Pale Tongue – Another variant of Pale Tongue can be unlocked every time a player kills Blue Spirits that defend the Host of Embers!
  • Obscuring Ring – After gathering 10 Pale Tongues, you can turn them in to receive the Obscuring Ring!
  • Man-grub’s Staff – The Staff can be acquired after a player turns in 30 Pale tongues!

To join Rosaria’s Fingers, all you need to do is find Rosaria at the Cathedral of the Deep. After you locate her, she will be near Rosaria’s Bed Chamber, simply talk to her and join the Covenant! By far this Covenant is the easiest to join, considering all the rewards and benefits you can gather.

Mound-Makers

Mound-Makers
You will need to find Holy Knight Hodrick in one of two ways! I have mentioned them down below for your ease.

Last but not least, Mound-Makers is the final Covenant out of the nine that we’ll be ending our guide with! Unlike all the other Covenants we have discussed, this one is by far the best to join in terms of benefits, rewards, and ranks!

To explain it to you players in a brief manner, Mound-Makers can invade a world and defeat hosts of another world. Furthermore, this includes killing friendly/defensive phantoms and aggressive phantoms altogether.

Additionally, your goal is to defeat as many phantoms and Hosts of Embers that guard the Host of that world, as much as possible. Imagine it this way, you are a member of Mound-Makers and you invade a world. You can have the option to defeat other Hosts and kill any opponent that is busy defending them.

For each kill you take, you will be rewarded with exquisite items! They are a fun way to enjoy Dark Souls 3 and engage in a barbaric PvP activity.

Rewards for Joining the Mound-Makers Covenant

  • Vertebra Shackle – You will receive the Shackles once you defeat/kill the Host of Embers or any phantoms that defend them.
  • Warmth – After collecting 10 Vertebra Shackles, players can turn them in/offer them to receive Warmth.
  • Bloodlust – Similarly, after collecting 30 Shackles and offering them will award the players with Bloodlust!

To join the Mound-Makers Covenant, the players need to be sure of one thing. It is a piece of crucial information or advice to have before completing Dark Souls 3. If you want to join this Covenant you must not defeat the Curse-rotted Greatwood.

If not you’ll have to defeat two Lords of Cinder. It follows a tricky method, however, the rewards are worth it and you can start by traveling toward the Undead Settlement Bonfire. After you reach the bonfire, you need to make your way toward the bridge and destroy the barrels on the right side of your screen.

Second Method To Join The Mound-Makers

Cage Person
You will need to Interact with the cage, to be teleported to the Holy Knight Hodrick!

A path will be opened up for you to explore. Follow the path and you’ll come across a ladder you’ll need to climb. Access the roof and you’ll find a person with a cage hanging around his back. Upon interacting with the cage, you will instantly be transported to Holy Knight Hodrick.

Speak to him and you’ll join Mound-Makers. Other than that, you can follow another method if conditions are not met (The condition where you have already defeated the Curse-Rotted Greatwood). To follow up with the second method, players will have to complete some of Sirris of the Sunless Realms questline.

Carry on with the missions until you are bestowed upon a summon sign to the same place where you defeated Greatwood. You will have to enter through the Summon Sign and complete the task of defeating the Host/person. Upon completing the task, you will be given the token of Mound-Makers to join their Covenant!

The Best Covenant To Join In Dark Souls 3

Best Dark Souls 3 Covenants
Here are the best Covenants you can join in Dark Souls 3!

To your surprise, Mound-Makers and Rosaria’s Fingers are the best Dark Souls 3 Covenants to join! The benefits come with exciting PvP experience and rewards that players can only imagine. By far, they are the best when it comes to experiencing the full potential of Dark Souls 3.

Clearly, you people are die-hard fans of the Soul Series, so as much as I would like to guide you guys to join the Covenant. You will be highly pleased to know that the decision is entirely up to you as the game offers a variety of roles to suffice the preferences of every player.

Furthermore, the Covenants that were left unchecked are most suited for beginner players that are new to Dark Souls 3. They can avail the full benefits of each Covenant before they turn into an experienced player that longs for higher ranks.

With that said, the latter can join Blue Sentinels, Way of Blue, and Warriors of Sunlight and be better at the game. Moreover, weapons such as the Wolf Knight Greatshield and Bloodlust are perfect for beginners to use the weapon’s art instead of parrying attacks.

I know parrying in Dark Souls 3 for beginners can be a hassle but with the Greatshield, it can be as simple as cutting a piece of cake. They can also complete the set for Wolf Kight combined with the Wolf Knight Greatsword, which is a great addition to the arsenal!

Bloodlust

Bloodlust Katana
You can use this Katana to use the Bleed effect in your attacks!

I mentioned Bloodlust and knew fresh players would instantly question its worth. To clear your doubts, Bloodlust is a Katana you can receive as a reward by joining the Mound-Makers Covenant.

It allows the players to create a Dexterity build that focuses on high Dexterity. The Katana paired well with Dexterity can buff the “Bleed” effect when they use it to attack.

Similar to the Rivers of Blood Katana in Elden Ring, this weapon also decreases a small portion of a player’s health when used for the Bleed effect. Hence, it is a weapon far better suited for experienced players as they will have to stay cautious during any fight they engage in while the buff is activated.

Sacred Oath

Sacred Oath
Beginners can use this item to conceal themselves against other players at long distances!

It is another Miracle beginners can use to increase their damage resistance alongside other bonuses. While the Miracle is active, players can get up to a 10% increase in their Damage Resistance in a PvE fight and 5% in PvP. It is a perfect item to have in your arsenal in terms of attack and defense.

Furthermore, you can get this item as a reward for joining the Warriors of Sunlight Covenant!

To end my Dark Souls 3 Covenants guide, I will mention one more item players can benefit from, which is the Obscuring Ring. You can obtain this item by joining Rosaria’s Fingers Covenant. The effects of the item allow the players to become invisible to other players and can be used to their advantage during PvP.

It also comes with a downside, which is you cannot use it in PvE fights, so ensure you use it against other players by combining it with your ranged spells and bow! Unlike Miracles, players can choose the Best Rings in Dark Souls 3 to their full advantage!

Hopefully, you had a lot to learn from my guide and you can pursue your goals to join the best Covenants and increase your ranks at a significant rate. Let me know in the comments below if I missed a crucial information!
