Alex Jones’ perjury revelation is funnier than Phoenix Wright

On Wednesday, right-wing media screamer Alex Jones learned his lawyers had inadvertently sent a copy of his cellphone records to prosecutors in his defamation trial. “You know what perjury is, don’t you?” the plaintiffs’ attorney asked as Jones tried to stumble backwards out of further crimes. Now, one of the absolutely wildest moments in a modern day courtroom has been forever immortalized in the best gaming adaptation of courtroom drama: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
To anticipate the scene in case you somehow missed it yesterday: Alex Jones was in the stands on the last day of his first defamation trial brought by two parents of a child killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting. Jones is accused of years of spreading false reports that the shooting was a hoax and the parents were liars.
In a surprising 11th hour twist, the parents’ attorney revealed that Jones’ attorneys accidentally sent him a digital copy of his phone with every text message, including ones he previously said he couldn’t find or not exist . Jones initially tried to claim it was proof he’d properly disclosed the information, before later claiming he had no idea what was going on because “I’m not a technician.”
And now, while the jury is considering up to $150 million in damages, Video game animator Eji on YouTube provided that perfectly Phoenix Wright Re-enactment of the exchange:
While Jones tried to settle with the families on $120,000 a piece in March, claiming the lawsuits were destroying his livelihood, financial documents presented in court yesterday showed the InfoWars host was sometimes making as much as $800,000 a day. The copy of Jones’ texts that the prosecution obtained is now also there requested by the US House of Representatives Committee Investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
