Alabama Crimson Tide top catcher John Metchie III comes off the field with a ‘significant’ ACL injury

Alabama’s top pass catcher, John Metchie IIICoach Nick Saban said Sunday he will be sidelined with a “significant” ACL injury.

The news came the same day Alabama number 1 learned that they would be playing 4 Cincinnati in the college football semifinals at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on December 31.

Metchie, who has 96 appearances, was injured during Saturday’s win over Georgia in the SEC championship game and has not returned.

Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay of ESPN both rated Metchie as the number 7 widespread available for the 2022 NFL draft before the injury.

Anticipating Metchie to be sidelined for a long time, Saban said on Saturday that several young players would have a chance of promotion.

Saban single out Slade Bolden, who caught five passes in 54 meters against Georgia, as did the freshman Ja’Corey Brooks.

With Jameson Williams sidelined for the second half against Auburn in the regular-season final, Brooks made several key receptions, including a touchdown that ended the game with less than a minute left.
