Cleveland Guardians fans might have cause for concern if a recent tweet from Jose Ramirez’s agent has anything to do with contract negotiations.
Last week, news broke from Cleveland that the Guardians were working on an extension for star third baseman Jose Ramirez.
The idea of the team striking a big deal to keep Ramirez in place was music to the ears of most Cleveland fans, but wanting to make a deal and actually going through with it are two different things.
It only took a simple “LOL” to put Guardians fans on high alert.
Jose Ramirez rumors: Cryptic tweet from agent bodes ill for Guardians
On Thursday, Ramirez’s agent Rafa Nieves tweeted those three letters without further context.
Is it sure LOL had something to do with Ramirez or contract talks between Cleveland and the player? Absolutely not.
However, most of Nieves’ recent tweets have been about Ramirez. Before the LOL, he addressed a report that the Guardians and Ramirez were in the middle of negotiations in Goodyear.
“I’m in Los Angeles, but okay.” Nieve wrote.
So there’s a good chance LOL was about something Ramirez concerned. Based on Cleveland’s history, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if talks didn’t go particularly well.
The Guardians are reportedly looking to strike a deal before opening day, which is just a week away. The clock is ticking. Laughter doesn’t exactly feel like a good sign that it’s coming from Ramirez’s camp.
