Miller revealed in an interview with Good Weekend magazine that he was moved to bring Bayles to the big screen after seeing the harrowing video his mother shared of him in February 2020.
The Queensland boy, who was born with a type of dwarfism known as achondroplasia, is already set to star in Miller’s next film, Three Thousand Years of Longing, alongside Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.
“It’s been good for us and it’s been good for him,” Miller told the magazine.
“And he did such a good job that he got a small part in Furiosa.”
CNN has contacted representatives from Miller and Bayles for further comment.
In the viral video clip from 2020, Bayles is shown crying uncontrollably in the back seat of his mother’s car as he begs for a knife to kill himself.
“I want people — parents, educators, teachers — to know that bullying has this impact,” his mother Yarraka Bayles said in the video, which was livestreamed on Facebook to raise awareness of the impact of bullying .
Can you please raise your children? your families, your friends? …You wonder why children kill themselves?”
The video also caught the attention of celebrities, including actor Hugh Jackman.
“No matter what, you have a friend in me,” Jackman Bayles said in a video message on Twitter.
“Quaden, you’re stronger than you think, mate.
“Let’s all be kind to one another, please. Bullying is not okay, period.”
