“Look…Kate loves to cook for us (thank goodness) but recently I’ve taken up baking…” Lutkins wrote.
“We are grateful to announce baby Clarkson for October 23.”
The post also included a clip from the iconic Disney film The Lion King, in which the characters exclaimed, “It’s a girl.”
The news was met with excitement across the AFLW world, and many notable names shared the couple’s joy.
Skipper Adelaide Crows and three-time All-Australian Chelsea Randall said: “Woohoo congratulations guys how exciting.”
Richmond captain Katie Brennan also joined AFLW players Orla O’Dwyer, Nat Grider, Jessica Wuetschener and Ally Anderson in congratulating them on last season’s league’s best and fairest winner.
Lutkins was placed on the club’s inactive roster for the upcoming AFLW season in March as the Lions finalized their roster.
The 34-year-old broke her cruciate ligament in the opening round of season six in 2022, but made a notable return later that year in season seven.
A three-time All Australian and the top spot player in the AFLW 2021 Grand Final, Lutkins has also had an impressive career as an Army soldier.
After serving four years at Enoggera Army Barracks in Brisbane in 2022, the mum-to-be is used to juggling many different commitments.
“We are all thrilled for Kate and her wife Kate as they begin their journey into parenthood,” said Breeanna Brock, head of women’s football at Brisbane Lions.
“We know she won’t be too far removed from the Brighton Homes Arena and the group but we will certainly miss her on the field.
“The whole Lions family is excited about Lutsy. She is a great servant of the club and we wish her all the best in this very exciting chapter.”
