Earlier this August, Brisbane secured the draft’s hottest properties when Ashcroft confirmed he would be joining the club as a father-son selection.
Ashcroft, the son of three-time Prime Minister Lion Marcus Ashcroft, who has played 318 games for the club during his own career, is a potential No. 1 pick.
Other potential top-10 draft picks also impressed in the U19 grand finals, with Cameron Mackenzie recording 26 disposals, six tackles, six clearances and two goals and gun forward Harry Sheezel scoring four.
In the on-site vote, Ashcroft received 11 votes, Mackenzie eight, and Sheezel five.
The Dragons never had a header in the game and sealed it with a dynamic first quarter in which they scored five unanswered goals. They won their fourth Premiership in the NAB League, 14.10 (94) to 7.9 (51).
After Ashcroft nominated the Lions, football manager Danny Daly said: “He has impressed at every level he has played at this year and like our members we can’t wait for him to don a Brisbane Lions jersey.
“Obviously his father Marcus is a legend at our club and it’s exciting to see him follow in those footsteps while also making a name for himself.”
Ashcroft, a midfielder who has averaged 28 appearances per game this year, said it’s an honor to be following in his father’s footsteps with the Lions.
“If I could do half of what he did, I’d be happy,” Ashcroft said.
“I’m also looking forward to forging my own name.”
Alongside Ashcroft, Sheezel and Mackenzie, Sandingham’s best players included William Brown, Angus McLennan and Toby McMullin.
Jaxon Binns, Kobe Shipp, Kade De La Rue and Sam Frangalas were among the best for Dandenong.
