AEW star Jay Lethal returns to ROH for the grand finale

Bandido, the reigning ROH world champion, was scheduled to defend his title one last time against Jonathan Gresham at the Ring of Honor PPV Final Battle on Saturday, December 11. Unfortunately, champion tested positive for COVID-19, keeping him out of the show. Now we know who will replace him.

Mike Johnson’s PW Insider reported that AEW will be sending former ROH champion Jay Lethal home for the main event, the company’s last show before a long hiatus. Tony Khan was promise to lend a hand get to the program earlier in the day. Fans speculate that that could include lending talent to the show. Lethal is the perfect choice. He’s Gresham’s former teammate. He is also one of the few people who stuck with them after AEW opened stores in 2019.

Lethal will be at least one AEW wrestler returning to their old promotion to help the company grow. It is unknown if any other AEW wrestlers will make an appearance. Many of the people on the AEW list have extensive histories with ROH.

Young Bucks, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and many others have devoted considerable time to the company. The historic event could be a big enough deal for Khan, an avid wrestling fan, to send the others. They may not struggle, but may be more present.

Jay Lethal has spent a total of fifteen years working for Ring of Honor. During his two terms with ROH, he won numerous championships, awards, and titles. Now, he will return home for the last time.

Lethal has hosted the ROH Pure Championship, the ROH World Tag Team Championship (with his rival, Jonathan Gresham), and has held the ROH TV and World Championship twice. He was named the company’s Wrestler of the Year in 2018. He also wrestled for ROH at Madison Square Garden in 2019.
