Adli Edwards says he offers Pico “interesting problems” at Bellator 277.

Adli Edwards takes a step forward in his career with a short-term fight against Aaron Pico.

Risk is a big part of mixed martial arts and at Bellator 277, Adli Edwards takes significant risks to achieve his dreams in MMA. Edwards is stepping in to face hyped prospect Aaron Pico with less than two weeks’ notice.

“I couldn’t let it get away from me,” Edwards said while speaking on media day. “I’ve been waiting for this for so long. This has been the dream for 15 years, maybe longer.”

Edwards didn’t have to wait too long after his last win to capitalize on this opportunity. He last competed on April 2 when he defeated Josh Harvey by submission in the first round of their XMMA matchup. This was his first fight in two years, but after that quick win, he didn’t hesitate to make the move when Bellator called.

“I feel like I’ve been on the verge of this for a while,” Edwards said. “I feel like I’ve been here a few times in my mind.”

Aaron Pico continues to develop his skills in MMA

Well, this “here” involves taking on a 9-3 Pico who’s on a five-fight win streak. Pico is on the shortlist of names as the featherweight class continues to find new challenges for current champion AJ McKee. Edwards is aware of Pico’s cage threat but believes he is just as unknown as this is a last minute fight.

“I have a lot of interesting problems for him to solve,” Edwards said. “No disrespect to Aaron Pico but it’s all about winning when I get in there. That’s what I’m here for. I think he knows I’m bringing some other things to the table that he’s not used to.”

Although Pico had two long winning streaks on his resume, his start in space wasn’t without some bumps as he faced tougher challenges. Those days appear to be behind him as he shows a wider range of MMA skills.

“I was a wrestler, everyone knew the hype about Aaron being a prospect,” Edwards said. “There are many fights in Bellator that would be a little easier. I was looking forward to testing myself and I can do that immediately.”
