A Houston man is reportedly under house arrest after allegedly killing a father over a parking lot.
Reports show that Christopher David Hernandez, 23, posted bail on Monday, August 29, for the murder of Joshua Lazard, who authorities said was fatally shot in broad daylight outside a Walmart in southwest Houston two days earlier .
Lazard’s wife Itasca Dickson said she was devastated by the sudden loss.
“I didn’t know my best friend was going to be gone,” Dickson told local broadcaster ABC13, fighting back tears. “I thought I’d have more time with my best friend, and I haven’t.”
Authorities said the two men parked in the same row in the lot and met as they walked toward the store. A witness said she heard Lazard yell at someone, “You don’t know how to drive.”
Hernandez then pulled out a pistol and shot Lazard multiple times, according to the Houston Police Department. It was “believed to be about driving and parking”.
Hernandez went to Walmart, where authorities said he was arrested.
Lazard was taken to a nearby hospital and later flown to a trauma unit, where officials said he was pronounced dead. He leaves behind three sons.
“If it’s something stupid like a parking lot, come on,” Dickson said. “I’m sure this man has a family, so why would you shoot someone for something so small?”
Hernandez, a painter with no criminal record, posted $300,000 bail Monday. The judge called him a danger to the community for committing the senseless act in public. He is forbidden to drive or carry weapons and must wear an ankle monitor.
Dickson said Lazard is a loving father who makes everyone around him laugh. She now worries about raising her sons alone.
“I can’t make these kids into men by myself. That wasn’t my responsibility. That was his,” she said.
