A Melbourne man who fears he and a friend have been involved in a bizarre attempted carjacking is urging other motorists to be aware.
Daniel Borghesi has shared chilling dashcam footage showing a man jumping in front of his friend’s car on Hoddle Street, Abbotsford at around 4.30am last Thursday.

In the eerie footage captured with his friend’s Tesla cameras, the man in the street then turns on a flashlight and shines it directly at the driver.
As the driver slows and tries to avoid the man, he appears to sweep toward the vehicle — narrowly missing.
Borghesi told 7NEWS.com.au the whole ordeal “really scared us”.
“His action was so methodical and the torch he aimed at us was so powerful,” he said.
“We had no idea what he was trying to do or achieve.”
Borghesi said they initially believed it was a carjacking attempt, but also wondered if it could have been an attempted robbery or even some form of insurance fraud.
“It’s hard to know, but either way it was very strange and worrying being so close to home,” he said.
“But my advice is whatever you’re doing, just don’t stop – walk around, do a U-turn, whatever you have to do. It’s not worth risking.”
The terrifying footage was posted to Borghesi’s TikTok account earlier this week and has received more than 1.2 million views from fellow confused motorists.
“Always drive with the doors locked and never stop,” said one person.
“Yes someone tried to stop me and open my door but luckily it was locked, same happened in Melbourne,” added another.
Victoria Police told 7NEWS.com.au that officers answered a call with triple zeros on December 1 saying a man was standing in the street in Abbotsford with a torch.
“Police were told a man shone a flashlight on a vehicle on Langridge Street just before 4.30am,” police said.
“Officials visited and conducted patrols in the area for the man, but no one matching the description was found.”
Police added if anyone feels threatened or is ever in a situation where they feel they are in danger, they should call Triple-0.
