rapper A$AP Rocky was charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm for his alleged role in the shooting of former A$AP Mob member A$AP Relli in central Hollywood last year, multiple sources reported. Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón announced the charges in a press release.
“Firing a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have had tragic consequences, not only for the target but for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” Gascón said. “My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a specific firearms allegation was warranted.”
The Los Angeles Police Department has described the Nov. 6 incident as an “argument between two acquaintances” that resulted in “the suspect firing a pistol at the victim,” who suffered minor injuries. The 33-year-old is said to have fled the scene with two other people.
Earlier this month, A$AP Relli, born Terell Ephron, confirmed he was indeed the victim of the shooting and filed a lawsuit against the “Good for You” rapper, accusing him of assault and assault. At the time of the incident, Relli stated he had agreed to meet with Rocky to resolve a disagreement. However, at their gathering, the “Praise the Lord” rapper was joined by two men.
In a statement to Rolling Stone, attorneys for Relli, Jamal Tooson and Brian Hurwitz, said: “Unknown to Mr. Ephron, ASAP Rocky not only planned an interview and arrived armed with a semi-automatic handgun. Upon arrival at the scene, a conversation ensued during which, without provocation, warning or justification, ASAP Rocky pulled out the pistol and deliberately fired multiple shots at Mr. Ephron.”
The “F-king Problem” rapper, born Rakim Athelaston Mayers, allegedly fired three to four shots at the accuser, who “believed one of the bullets grazed his left hand.” Relli’s attorney claimed the entire incident was monitored. In addition, her client has received “multiple death threats and irreparable damage to his career in the entertainment industry” as a result of this incident.
Rocky was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on April 20 for his connection to the incident, shortly after returning from vacationing in Barbados with girlfriend Rihanna. He was arrested and later released after posting $550,000 bail.
The star has not publicly responded to the charges or the upcoming lawsuit. His indictment is scheduled for Wednesday August 17 and the investigation is ongoing.
