A ‘timeless’ look to set the tone for record-breaking aspirations – The Athletic

Angel City FC made a promise in February to reveal the team’s colors, logos, kits and other merchandise in the summer of 2021. While it took a few more months, the club did. unveiled their main kit for the 2022 season on Wednesday, finally checking the last item off their to-do list on the branding front.

A sub-set is still in the works, but for the main look, Angel City went for a simple, instant classic look using all black and hints of the team’s sol rosa color on the dashboard. Sponsor emblems and logos, plus a subtle repetition of the art deco pattern also extend across the shorts.

That “geometric sunrise” pattern represents “the first light on the dark horizon, marking the beginning of a new day,” as the team explains – and is symbolic of the goal. Their magnanimity about a new era for women’s sports through their entrance into the NWSL. The jersey is made of recycled materials and features standard Nike Dri-FIT technology and the same side panels used on other jerseys (like those of Portland Thorns FC or the US national team). The team’s mantra, “Volemos,” is on the back under the collar. The person explains that it acts “as a reminder to always fly to greater heights – together.”

Angel City FC’s goal in the opening kit? “Timeless,” said Katie Eaton, vice president of commerce and fan experience. “I feel this is how we are going to approach competition clothing in general. Our main will always be trying and staying true to our club identity. That means it’s likely to stick with black as the main color for years to come, but she did hint that the accessory set is where the team will aim for a more playful design approach – wear although the NWSL has a relatively strict approach to the white remaining away kits .
