The Indian women’s team played their third group stage match at the 2022 Commonwealth Games against Barbados on Wednesday 4th August at Edgbaston, Birmingham, United Kingdom. India defeated Barbados by 100 runs with the help of Renuka Singh’s four-wicket move. With this victory, India reached the semi-finals.
Barbados had won the toss and opted to roll first. India set a decent 163 target for Barbados with help from Jeminah Rodrigues and Shefali Verma and a guest appearance from Deepti Sharma.
Verma hit 43 runs of 26 balls and seven fours with an impressive batting average of 165.38 and a six, while Rodrigues hit an unbeaten 56 runs of 46 balls with six boundaries and a six. Later, Deepti Sharma hit two fours and a six to hit a 28-ball in 34 carries to put India at 162/4.
When Barbados went out to bat, Renuka Singh kept sending them back. She struck earlier by rolling out Deandra Dottin. She then sent Hayley Matthews and Kycia Knight back.
No Windies hitter even got past the 20 run mark. Knight was the top scorer for Barbados on 16 carries from 20 balls. In the end, Barbados could only manage 62 runs, losing eight wickets in the 20 overs allotted. Meghna Singh, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav and Harmanpreet Kaur each picked up a wicket while Renuka Singh scalped four wickets. Renuka conceded just 10 runs in her four overs.
