A Queensland man struck by lightning while playing golf has died, the family have confirmed

The Queensland man who was struck by lightning while playing golf north of Brisbane has sadly died, his family has confirmed.
Dirk Kotze, 56, “passed away peacefully … surrounded by his loved ones”.
Kotze was fighting for his life after being struck by lightning at a golf course in Brendale.

He was on course on March 12 when a major series of storms rolled through southeast Queensland.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in critical condition.
“The trauma suffered from both the lightning strike and subsequent cardiac arrest was too severe for his body to recover,” wrote a family member in an update to his GoFundMe campaign.
“His family finds great comfort in knowing that he is at peace now, strengthened by his great faith in God with the knowledge of his ultimate goal.
“His wife Hannelé, daughter Dané and sons Tiaan and Duan and his entire family speak again to the members of the community and the medical professionals who worked tirelessly to save his life and to all the people in the community around the world have sent their great gratitude to those who have sent love, support and prayers.
“Dirk was a man known for having a larger than life personality.
“His faith in God, his love of people and being the epitome of a shirt-sleeved man made him stand out – there was no one in need that he would not lay down his own life in order to help.
“His life influenced many and he will not be forgotten any time soon.”
