A nasty account-destroying exploit is currently ruining Grand Theft Auto Online

Grand Theft Auto Online appears to be suffering from a nasty exploit that allows exploiters to screw up fellow players’ accounts and gameplay.

The issue was first reported by a player Tez2who reported that he had learned about the exploit “[allows] Scammers to remove/remove/change your stats and permanently corrupt your account aka ban/delete.” Other players report hackers dumping cash and levels on accounts to get support banned. Still others claim the exploit is broader than that GTAO and affects other online titles in the company’s stable, including Red Dead Online.

Rockstar is reportedly conducting an investigation but has not released a statement as of this writing despite the support forums being flooded with reports; Best practices, according to the massive Reddit thread on this topic, is to just log out and stay logged out. Players can verify their accounts without logging into the game through Rockstar Social Club.

However, some players did not receive the memo and are already reporting that their accounts have been messed up beyond recognition. If so, they’ll get back to support… whenever it pops up over the weekend.
