That Virat Kohli is one of the most ambitious and dedicated cricketers is well known throughout the cricket fraternity and his disappointed emotions are clearly written all over his face when he fails to improve on his weaknesses.

The 33-year-old is determined to iron out his weaknesses and hone his skills at the nets. Coaches and teammates have even spoken publicly about Kohli’s hunger to make each of his net sessions worthy of the utmost focus. But when he stumbles, he gets frustrated.

During training, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain became furious when he failed to hit the ball and felt the impulse to hit the stumps with his racquet instead.

They trained at MCA Stadium in Pune ahead of RCB’s next game against Mumbai Indians on Saturday (9 April). Spinners pretty much prevented him from hitting the big runs he’s known for. In order to do his best against the MI, he was seen training against the spinners in the nets.

Karn Sharma was the bowler and delivered a long ball. Virat Kohli tried a slashing shot but missed and slammed into the stumps. And that mistake angered the batsman and he almost smashed the stumps with the bat, but he controlled himself and placed the stumps to prepare for the next delivery.

In 2017, Anil Kumble’s brief departure as Team India head coach sparked several controversies and all the blame lay with then-Test skipper Virat Kohli. But Vinod Rai, the Supreme Court-appointed head of the management committee, had shed light on the relationship between them. In his recently published book “NOT JUST A NIGHTWATCHMAN: My innings in the BCCI” he made it unmistakably clear that Kohli was not at fault.

“I made it very clear in the book that Virat only represents the feelings of the team. He wasn’t the one (having problems with Kumble). A lot of people have asked me, “What was the behavior like between Kohli and Kumble?” I say ‘we haven’t seen her in these three months’ and ‘there was no riots between the two,'” Rai said in an interview with Boria Majumdar.

“The younger members of the team felt intimidated by Kumble. So it’s just unnecessary to put all the blame on Kohli,” he added.
