Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are just a few weeks away, which means some big leaks are on the way. The Paldea region Pokédex was actually leaked a while ago, and while many of the creature concepts have been confirmed by additional trailers, many are still unconfirmed placeholders. One of these Pokemon has been dubbed the “Coin,” and we just saw the little guy in an unusual place.
Pokémon Go data mining group PokeMiner discovered “Coin” in the mobile game’s files. Maybe that’s not a too surprising place to find it, but you’d think new Pokémon wouldn’t be added to Go until they’re available in the flagship games first. Anyway, we can check out the weird little monster carrying a coin on its back; Leaks say that if you collect enough coins around the map, you can evolve them. Apparently it’s #1080 in the Pokédex, which would make this evolution #1081.
In fact, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Coin. A previous Scarlet and Violet trailer accidentally (or perhaps intentionally) included three additional Pokemon on its minimap during gameplay footage. Eagle-eyed viewers also spotted others hidden in the corner of the screen behind part of the UI. @Riddler_Khu pointed out the resemblance between one of these unannounced mons and the Pokémon Go datamine of “Coin,” and it certainly appears to be true. Maybe this is the next Pokemon to get its own trailer.
Many Pokémon have been revealed this way. Most recently we met the ghost dog Greavard and before that we were introduced to the electric frog Bellibolt. There are already a lot of new additions to the Paldean Pokédex that we know about, but we’re still expecting a few surprises when the new games come out.
We don’t have to wait long. The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet release date is November 18th. The Gen 9 versions will arrive on Nintendo Switch this Friday.
