A boy dies after a car crashes into a traffic light in Wakerley, Queensland

An 11-year-old boy has died after a car crashed into a traffic light in east Brisbane.

Police were called to Wakerley around 9.40am on Thursday after a Holden Commodore went off the road and crashed into the traffic pole at the junction of Manly and Hargreaves streets.

Bystanders, including an off-duty police officer, rushed to administer first aid to the boy, who was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Police said he died of his injuries on Friday.

Two men, including the driver of the vehicle, were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Forensic Crash Unit officials are investigating how the crash unfolded.
