The Philadelphia 76ers are in no hurry to buy Ben Simmons. The 76ers are not expected to move Simmons on the NBA trade deadline. Instead, the new plan includes offering Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets to James Harden according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Sam Amick.
This commercial offer will make a lot of sense for both teams depending on how both sides end up this season. The 76ers want Harden before the Nets make a big package deal with the Houston Rockets to get him. Harden has enjoyed his time with former general manager Daryl Morey, who is now general manager of the 76ers.
The theory around the league is that Harden could be available in trade this summer as he hasn’t signed an extension with the Nets.
Morey spent the regular season looking for deals but couldn’t find anyone that matched his desire to pair Joel Embiid with another superstar. Simmons’ continued absence has encouraged other teams to stick with their lowly offers, leading to an impasse that increasingly looks like it will last into the summer.
