I was wondering if the Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers would apply The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom when they were rolled out of retirement last week. Turns out they do, and given that it’s Nintendo’s first $70 game, the timing couldn’t be better.

Nintendo accidentally revealed zelda‘s new price point last night and quickly deleted it from his website. Some wondered if it was a glitch or a data entry error, but then pages were reserved Tears of the Kingdom started disappearing all over the internet. Some players rushed to order the game while it still cost $60. Today that’s no longer an option, but the Switch coupons offer an alternative that’s almost as good.

A screenshot from Nintendo's eShop shows that Tears of the Kingdom qualifies for the voucher discount.

Nintendo’s gift card program you can give Nintendo $100 in exchange for two vouchers, each redeemable for a game from a specific list. This list now contains Tear of Kingdommeaning you can effectively get one of the most anticipated games of 2023 for just $40 if you’re willing to buy another game effectively at full price.

The list of qualifying games includes a lot of old stuff that is often for sale, but also a lot of newer hits like turn 3, Pokemon scarlet And Violet, turn 3And Engage Fire Emblem. What was a maximum savings of $20 is now $30 Tears of the Kingdom in the mix. The coupons are valid for up to 12 months, although it’s not exactly clear when Nintendo will stop selling them.

Alternatively, you can just pay the full price of $70. If a game is worth that much, and maybe even more, it could well be the sequel to breath of the wildthe game of the year 2017 and by far one of the best of the last decade.
