The Nets won’t be entering the NBA playoffs with a high starting value, but that doesn’t mean they can’t weather the odds and bring a title to Brooklyn fans.
Heading into the regular season, conventional wisdom believed that James Harden and Kevin Durant would lead the Nets to one of the top seeds in the Eastern Conference. It’s safe to say that things didn’t go according to plan for Steve Nash’s team.
The good news for Brooklyn fans is that despite all the turmoil, their favorite team is still finding a way to sneak into the playoffs. Harden’s deal with the 76ers shuffled the Nets’ deck significantly. The heart of the deal is that Ben Simmons hasn’t played a single minute for the team. Kyrie Irving’s inconsistent availability due to his decision not to get vaccinated against COVID-19 also served to cost the Nets regular-season victories. Still, Kevin Durant and company managed to keep the franchise’s hopes of post-season fame alive.
When the playoffs begin, the Nets need to shake off the uneasiness of their regular-season drama and get down to business. Here are five reasons they can do it and take home the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
5. Steve Nash can calm the nets
Nash may not be the most skilled tactician in the NBA, but he’s excellent at massaging egos and keeping everyone on track. That’s crucial for a team going into the postseason with a lot of massive egos.
Having a head coach with Zen-like qualities worked for the Bulls and Lakers with Phil Jackson at the helm. Nash can bring that same sense of calm to Brooklyn during tough times.
