Freddie Freeman and Carlos Correa are the free agents receiving the most attention this season. But there are other names that teams should covet.
With a history of winning offensively and defensively, Freddie Freeman and Carlos Correa are the top names in the free agency market. But those names are not.
Freeman is gaining attention as a top-level first player as well as for his batman. In his 11 career seasons, the left-wing batman has scored .295/.384/.509 with +138 wRC. He hit a total of 271 home runs, including 31 in the 2021 season, when he led the Atlanta Braves to the World Series championship.
Freeman turned down a qualifying offer of $18.4 million from the Braves to become a freelance agent. He’s a three-time All-Star for the National League and won the Golden Glove for his defense at first base in 2018.
The best free agent is not Carlos Correa or Freddie Freeman?
In the seven seasons, Correa reached .277 / .356 / .496 with +128 wRC. He has totaled 133 home runs, 489 RBIs, 162 doubles, 347 walks and 33 base steals. In 2021, Correa has a total of 20 saves. He has a 0.981 certainty rate for his career.
The right won the Golden Glove for the American League Shortstop in 2021, also taking home the Platinum Glove award. He’s a two-time All-Star.
Freeman and Correa are both great options. But they don’t cover every need for all teams. These two companies promise to win large contracts with long-term potential. Some teams are in need of pitching. Some need bench selection or a designated hitter. Some groups have smaller budgets to be free agents.
There are some excellent candidates besides these two options. Let’s discuss.
