San Francisco 49ers had a fight in training where punches were exchanged. linebacker Fred Warner and wide receiver Brandon Ayuk were the highlights of the event on Tuesday. So with the head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked for his opinion on the violence he had to say.

“I want everyone to challenge each other” Shanahan said Friday via team transcript. “I don’t care how much crap people talk. I don’t care how close they get to the fight. They can do whatever they want to get themselves going and be as intense as they want and bring out the best in each other, which often happens. And on the pitch it’s the same, but as soon as you throw a shot, you get kicked out or you get a penalty. And we’re proud that I want people to be irritating. I want people to get as close to all that stuff as possible.”

“I want people to get right on the line where they’re about to black out. But you can’t pass out playing soccer or you’ll cost your team, but I love doing that to other people.” The fight started when Warner admittedly tried to push Aiyuk. Featuring Aiyuk standing up for himself, which eventually leads to an exchange of hands and fists.

Shanahan was okay with Aiyuk standing up for himself. “In any case, I understood what he was up against‘ said Shanahan, ‘so it didn’t bother me.“Football is without a doubt an intense sport and it’s a physical sport without a doubt, so according to Shanahan it’s good that his team can stand up for themselves but maybe not with fists and against themselves.

“I love the intensity‘ Shanahan said. “But I don’t think you have to fight to be intense. Brawls are brawls, but then they lead to other things. I think that’s why we have a guy on record for shooting someone needlessly which led to the big fight. And then we threw in a bunch of hay choppers and stuff that just breaks your hands.”

“I think our team is pretty strong. I think we’re pretty physical. I think if most people probably voted on who was the most physical team on tape last year, we’d win most of it. And we didn’t have a single fight last year, so I don’t think that really applies to toughness.”

The 49ers are looking for a fresh start with Trey Lance as their new quarterback. So the intensity that Shanahan is talking about can help them reach new heights.
