These three New York Yankees free agents won’t be back for more fun in 2023. With contracts expiring, these are her final weeks in the Bronx.
There will be some big ones New York Yankees Free Agents in the upcoming off-season. This could be a winter where the team makes some drastic changes. While Brian Cashman may not officially leave his post or Aaron Boone may be fired, the roster could undergo a major overhaul.
The Yankees remain well positioned to compete beyond this year even with all of their free agents leaving. They are a goal ball club. Replacing free agents who lose them will be a priority for the front office. Rarely is there an off-season when they aren’t at least trying to get better.
In these final weeks of the MLB season — and into the postseason that the Yankees will find themselves in — we’re likely looking at the final days of at least these three free agents in the Bronx.
1) Yankees poised to move away from a fading Aroldis Chapman
Aroldis Chapman will have to settle for a Kenley Jansen-type deal this winter and likely for a lot less money. Even if he does regain the closer job for the remainder of this season, there are many doubts about what’s next for him.
The Yankees have successfully built a strong bullpen this year despite many injuries. Someone, whether it’s Clay Holmes or some other arm, should be in charge forever. Chapman, a much less effective pitcher now than in his prime, is destined to end up elsewhere.
Between the injuries and the bloating ERA, the relationship between these two must come to an end. He’s given the ball club some fantastic years. It’s someone else’s turn to give him a chance.
For New Yorkers, it’s an opportunity to find someone more reliable.
