These three members of the Chicago White Sox roster will most likely be gone by September 1st.
The Chicago White Sox are hoping to make a late push in the last month and a half to grab a wildcard berth or maybe even win the American League Central. A favorite Early in the season, they were prey rather than predators for most of the season.
August is going to be a big month for them and some of their players. It could even be the end for some members of the squad – albeit temporarily.
We can expect these three White Sox players to be gone from the roster by September 1st.
1) The White Sox roster won’t have Lenyn Sosa for long
Lenyn Sosa is essentially the roster replacement for Tim Anderson. The team’s star shortstop is injured. Once back, Sosa is the most logical player to return to the lower leagues.
There is no doubt that this is the plan the White Sox will have with their roster. Sosa doesn’t play a major role in the team beyond the return of Anderson. He may outperform Leury Garcia, but so far he hasn’t done much on the plate.
In a season where they’ve struggled with many injuries, this is a one-player team who has appeared in over 100 games to date. They haven’t been too scared of demoting players or banning them from DFA all year. Jake Burger was recently sent downstairs. Earlier this year, Dallas Keuchel was selected for deployment.
Sending Sosa back to the minors is a much easier decision. Anything he can offer the White Sox now in Anderson’s absence is extra. What they really need is for others to step up and at least get some quality defense from Sosa.
