By adding Quinn Ewers through the transfer portal, the Texas football show could be on its way back… back?!
After landing former five-star defender Quinn Ewers, the Texas football program needs to capitalize on its massive commitment and continue to attack the transfer portal strongly.
Although it’s not accurate NFL free agency, that’s the closest thing college football has to this at this point. What we saw in the early years of the transfer portal era was that there was no better way to flip a lackluster roster than to hit player after player in the portal. If you need proof, see how well coaches like Chip Kelly and Mel Tucker have done with this recruiting tactic.
With Ewers set to head to Austin for spring classes, here are three other famous players in the transfer portal that Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff should be chasing this cycle.

Eli Ricks is an extreme dark horse, but he can leave DBU for another DBU
Admittedly, it’s not very likely that Texas ends up landing the former LSU. Eli Ricks, but the Longhorns must try. While Texas recruited him out of high school, California native Rancho Cucamonga heard the call of Baton Rouge. After hitting the transfer portal in late November, the three teams with the best chance of landing are Alabama, Georgia and USC. What about Texas?
The good news for Texas is Ricks is no longer a candidate for Ohio State after many players in the Buckeyes defense threatened to enter the portal if he signed them. With many members of Sarkisian’s coaching staff having worked in Alabama, perhaps Texas could be a taboo candidate to fulfill his commitment? At worst, he’ll see playtime.
Adding Ricks to the Texas defence would be great, but these two other famous transfers are more likely to go to Austin this season instead of him.
