The Padres traded for now-former Brewers closer Josh Hader on Monday. Under no circumstances should they be completed before the deadline on Tuesday.

The San Diego Padres made an explosive move Monday morning by acquiring the best sewer in the MLB Josh Hader of the Milwaukee Brewers.

They have the league leader in saves, hair flow and a rousing plethora of fastballs for none of their best prospects and two MLB relievers in Taylor Rogers and Dinelson Lamet. Now the Padres rumors are heating up with all manner of players linked to them.

It helps that the Padres have the most open-minded GM in all of baseball in AJ Preller. He is determined to make the playoffs this year and next and move up towards a World Series. That’s what this step means.

Padre’s Rumours: Acquire the best racquet on the market, Juan Soto

As Jeff Passan notes below, the Padres could easily double trade Josh Hader and generational talent Juan Soto. The Hader trade included no big-name prospects or young players on the Padres roster.

That said, the Padres haven’t given up any of the key prospects they’ve talked about in countless other deals. CJ Abrams, Robert Hassell III, James Wood and Jackson Merrill remain, as does MacKenzie Gore. Could the Padres really pull off a double between Juan Soto and Josh Hader?

If the Padres are serious about getting Soto, it will likely require almost every name listed in this tweet, plus a few others not listed. He is under team control until 2024. He would give the Padres an elite left-handed outfield stick, which is now their number one need.

It has already been reported that the Padres and Cardinals are likely finalists for Soto, although you can’t discount the Dodgers or Rangers. Someone has to blink and meet the Nationals award because it’s clear that if they don’t do that they won’t be treated.

Perhaps the biggest plus for this trade is that it takes the pressure off Machado, which it was fight a ton since he injured his ankle in June. Who knows when Tatis will be back? For the Padres to get Juan Soto would be a brilliant move and a desperate move. It’s a step to win in the next 3 years. If you don’t win a World Series, the Padres will quickly fall off a cliff afterwards.
