The Atlanta Braves can benefit from turning potential buyers into sellers by acquiring any of these three players.
That Atlanta Braves lined up for all of 2022 to be trade deadline buyers. Towards the end of May and into June it looked like they would have to add less.
The Braves seem to be one of the most unstoppable teams in the league. As clubs like the Los Angeles Angels utterly fell apart, they roared forward and challenged the rest of the National League for the top spot. While it’s still a little off the mark, there’s still potential to get even better.
One way to do this is to keep an eye out on the scoreboard for more than just their own playoff hopes. Several teams are going in the wrong direction. And if those previous buyers turn into sellers, the Braves could look to trade for each of those three players.
1) Possible Braves trade goal: A reunion with Joc Pederson
History repeating itself is often a term used in a negative context. When it comes to trades for Joc Pederson at the close, it’s nothing but good vibes for the Braves.
The club added him in a deal with the Chicago Cubs last season. He went on to hit .249/.325/.428 for them as part of a crew of outfielders they brought into the mix mid-year to even out a flat group beyond the infield dirt on a daily basis.
Pederson was great for the Braves in the NLDS against the Milwaukee Brewers, where he hit two home runs and hit .429. This year he’s a member of the San Francisco Giants, who seem to lack a few players to keep up with the best. Their record is slipping and with many questions about the players they have, the Giants are potential sellers if they don’t change things quickly.
The need for Pederson isn’t quite as urgent as it was last year, but circumstances aren’t too far off. Pederson, who’s batting for a lot of power this season, could be a left-hander for Atlanta. Think of it as a preventive measure against further injury in the outfield.
