MLB rumors about Trey Mancini’s goal are over, and these three teams might regret not acting for him.
Mancini had been an understandable tradesman for the Orioles all season. Then they started winning a lot of games. They finally came to their senses and decided that trading it was the right move.
Unfortunately for some teams there is only one Trey Mancini. You’ll have to look elsewhere for a bat. It’s these three clubs who will regret not trading for him the most.
MLB rumors: Mets could be left in the dust without Trey Mancini
The New York Mets were one of the most logical targets for Mancini. Their need for a DH boost continues (for now, at least), with JD Davis and Daniel Vogelbach’s train taking the role. It might be the most obvious gap for a contender to fill. When the trading deadline is up, we should expect them to make some kind of supplement.
Mancini would have given the Mets some sneaky right-handed pop. His home runs failed this year in Baltimore, among other things because of the renovation of the baseball stadium at Camden Yards. While Citi Field is hardly a band box, we may have seen its performance numbers increase with a change of scenery.
The Mets have a few other options out there. Josh Bell is very appealing. JD Martinez may not cost quite as much as it should. Mancini would still have been a nice right-handed addition to their lineup. They will have to hope whoever they end up with can produce more.
It’s up to General Manager Billy Eppler to take a different step now and prevent them from regretting it.
