The New York Yankees would love to trade Joey Gallo, and these three teams might be fools enough to cut a deal.
Joey Gallo wasn’t even there New York Yankees for a full calendar cover. That hasn’t stopped fans from volunteering to drive him to JFK, LaGuardia, or even Newark Airport.
Gallo was acquired by the Yankees before last year’s close when he hit .223/.379/.490 for the Texas Rangers. The all-or-nothing gallo, known for his immense power and even greater punching power, saw those slash line totals drop to .160/.303/.404 as a member of the Yankees. He’s keeping pace with those numbers through early 2022, but unfortunately falls slightly short in the OBP and Slugging departments.
The Yankees are known to have an interest in trading Gallo — a fact made clear during the offseason. They never found the right deal, but maybe this summer they’ll find one of those teams dumb enough to make a deal.
Joey Gallo rumors: Phillies could trade for Yankees sluggers
The Philadelphia Phillies stupidly built their team this offseason. They added more DH candidates by signing Nick Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber when they already had Bryce Harper and Rhys Hoskins on the list.
While Gallo isn’t exactly a DH contender with a two-glove history, he wouldn’t add much to an already homerun-centric starting lineup.
With the Phillies, Gallo could actually fit into a starting midfield job. Although more of a corner outfielder, he has some experience playing on the toughest outfield. The Phillies have struggled to fill that job for a number of years. This season they do it again with Odubel Herrera with some very disappointing results.
A trade with the Yankees for Gallo would double what they already have. The Phillies are a team of stompers and bashers who might as well hit ten runs or go a night without a hit. With so few quality midfield options likely to be available at the close, could the Phillies be foolish enough to try and fit him into a club that needs something else?
