3 teams in desperation mode after Luis Castillo’s trade

Those three teams swung and missed Luis Castillo. You can’t afford to do the same with Frankie Montas.

Luis Castillo was dealt to the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Jerry Dipoto transacted one blockbuster trade and several others along the way MLB Front office executives across the league are panicking. Now, when the best starter heads to the Emerald City, all eyes will be on it Frankie Montas.

With the Cincinnati Reds saying goodbye to Castillo, the Oakland A’s now control the trade deadline. Starting pitching is always very expensive, but this is especially true with this year’s deadline.

With the addition of a wild card spot, more teams are in the running than ever before. This has resulted in more clubs being buyers at the close, and the price of these highly sought-after guns is only going to increase. Which three teams are now in desperation mode and need to give their all to land Montas?

1. The New York Yankees have to overpay to get Frankie Montas.

According to reports, Brian Cashman got a bit stingy When it came to what prospects he was willing to surrender to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Luis Castillo. Cashman’s insistence on sticking with top shortstop Anthony Volpe likely cost the Yankees an opportunity to secure Castillo’s services.

He must not make the same mistake again. If the Yankees are looking to improve their starting rotation, Frankie Montas is the answer and the price will be high. That doesn’t mean Volpe has to be part of the deal, but it does require multiple top prospects.

The Yankees have the resources to close this deal. Whether it’s Oswald Peraza, Jasson Dominguez, Ken Waldichuk, or a combination of the three, Cashman can’t afford to screw this up.

The New York Yankees are fighting for the title of favorite at this year’s World Series, but the Houston Astros stand in their way. The Yankees will inevitably have to spend money to improve their rotation or they may miss the fall classic again.
